Telespazio, a joint venture between Finmeccanica (67%) and Thales (33%), is one of the world’s leading players in satellite services. The company, headquartered in Rome, Italy, employs approximately 2500 people. It relies on an international network of space centres and teleports and operates worldwide through many subsidiaries.

Activities in D-BOX 

Telespazio will mainly contribute in the project with the integration of space assets within the D-BOX system. Particularly, Telespazio will address (i) to identify the main demining operations and different scenarios, (ii) to analyze the existing data bases for landmine classification, (iii) to define the system specifications and the integration with existing space components, (iv) to analyze and then improve the main aspects for toolbox design, (v) to develop and integrate the innovative tools with space components into the toolbox.

In particular, TPZ will contribute to the analysis of space assets, concerning the Earth Observation and meteo-climatic data, models and methodologies, infrastructure and services, lab tests and simulation for demining activities. The analysis of data from  heterogeneous long-range sensors (i.e. airborne and satellite) will be fused through novel algorithms and techniques, in order to reduce hazard zones and suspected landmine areas. Moreover, TPZ will contribute to the training, education activities; to validate of each system modules of toolbox will be provided, and to support the demonstration tasks, from the initiation phase with the definition of demining exercise details, to the system realization and roadmap for future work recommendations.
