With its staff of approximately 70 researchers Sensors and Wireless Devices knowledge centre of VTT has a profound experience in different sensors including MEMS sensors, RFID, radar sensors and acoustic sensors and actuators. Recent acoustic sensor development work includes MEMS microphones, acoustic-emission sensors, and surface and bulk acoustic wave devices. Radar research is focused on mm-wave and THz imaging, automotive radars, and imaging. Sensors and Wireless Devices knowledge centre has extensive laboratories for sensor characterization and testing and access to the clean-room facilities as well.


Activities in D-BOX 

VTT’s main role in the project is related to the acoustic and combined acoustic and GPR landmine detection systems. VTT’s involvement includes establishment of use scenarios for the detection systems, deriving specifications for the detection systems accordingly, development of acoustic and combined acoustic and GPR system, its validation and testing.
